David Huffman was an American computer scientist and mathematician known for his contributions to the field of computer science and digital communication theory. He is particularly remembered for his work on Huffman coding, a method of data compression that involves assigning variable-length codes to symbols based on their frequencies in the data. Huffman received several awards for his contributions, including the National Medal of Science in 1999, and was inducted into the National Inventors Hall of Fame in 2006. He passed away in 1999 at the age of 74.
